With Easter upon us and having the privilege of worshiping such an amazing God, I thought I’d take some time to share the songs that have impacted me the most in my journey with Christ.
I didn’t really meet Jesus until I was twenty years old. I grew up knowing who Jesus was and learned all about Him in church but I never understood that I could have a personal, one on one relationship with Him. I didn’t know what it meant to surrender my life to Him. I’m so very grateful that I stumbled upon a group of people that showed me what it meant to be a true follower of Christ and brought me to a church that I still call home today.

1. The Stand – Hillsong
Chills. Every time. I’ve got them right now as I listen and type this post.
I’ll stand
With arms high and heart abandoned
In awe of the one who gave it all
I’ll stand
My soul Lord to you surrendered
All I am is yours
2. Here in Your Presence – New Life Worship
This is such a simple song with only a few lyrics but the whole thing is perfect.
Found in Your hands, fullness of joy
Every fear suddenly wiped away here in Your presence
All of my gains now fade away
Every crown no longer on display, here in Your presence
Heaven is trembling in awe of Your wonders
The kings and their kingdoms are standing amazedChorus:
Here in Your presence, we are undone
Here in Your presence, Heaven and Earth become one
Here in Your presence, all things are new
Here in Your presence, everything bows before YouBridge:
Wonderful, beautiful, glorious, matchless in every way
Wonderful, beautiful, glorious, matchless in every way
3. From the Inside Out – Hillsong
My change from knowing Him needs to start in the inside. Changing the outside is not enough.
Your will above all else
My purpose remains
The art of losing myself in bringing you praise
Everlasting, your light will shine when all else fades
Never ending, your glory goes beyond all fame
4. Break Every Chain – Tasha Cobbs
This song just makes me want to scream at the top of my lungs. There is no chain that Jesus cannot break. No bondage that he cannot free you from.
There is power in the name of Jesus
to break every chain, break every chain, break every chain.
5. 10,000 Reasons – Matt Redman
No matter my circumstances, whether pain or joy, I want to be praising the Lord. Forever.
And on that day when my strength is failing
The end draws near and my time has come
Still my soul will sing Your praise unending
10,000 years and then forever more
6. In Christ Alone – Keith & Kristyn Getty
The final two verses in this song gives me chills and makes me tear up with joy every single time. There is nothing in this world that can tear me away from Jesus.
There in the ground His body lay,
Light of the world by darkness slain;
Then bursting forth in glorious day,
Up from the grave He rose again!
And as He stands in victory,
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me;
For I am His and He is mine—
Bought with the precious blood of Christ. No guilt in life, no fear in death—
This is the pow’r of Christ in me;
From life’s first cry to final breath,
Jesus commands my destiny.
No pow’r of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand;
Till He returns or calls me home—
Here in the pow’r of Christ I’ll stand.
7. While I’m waiting – John Waller
I know several people aren’t huge fans of this song but this song has such deep meaning for me. When I was going through my miscarriages and aching to be pregnant this song came on every time I needed to be reminded of His goodness and perfect timing. At that point I didn’t know why I got pregnant so easily with the two older boys and why it was so difficult this time. Looking back it was all timed out perfectly. Without those struggles and that waiting we wouldn’t have Mercedes. I needed to continue to trust and follow God while waiting, no matter what.
I’m waiting, I’m waiting on You Lord
And I am hopeful, I’m waiting on You Lord
Though it is painful, but patiently I will waitAnd I will move ahead bold and confident
Taking every step in obedienceWhile I’m waiting I will serve You
While I’m waiting I will worship
While I’m waiting I will not faint
I’ll be running the race even while I wait
8. How Great Thou Art – Stewart K. Hine
This song will forever remind me of my Great Grandma Gunhild. That woman was such an example of Christ’s love and to this day I can still hear her voice singing this song. It will be an amazing day when I can join her in Heaven to sing this song to our great and awesome God.
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee:
How great thou art! How great thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee:
How great thou art! How great thou art!
When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!
Then *I shall bow in humble adoration,
And there proclaim, My God, how great thou art!”
9. How He Loves – The David Crowder Band
It’s hard to fully comprehend how much this all-powerful God really loves us. What are we that he should care at all? But he DOES. And not just a little, a whole dang lot. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to really understand how much but it’s enough to know he does and that His love is unending, powerful, and perfect.
And we are His portion and He is our prize,
Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes,
If his grace is an ocean, we’re all sinking.
And Heaven meets earth like an unforeseen kiss,
And my heart turns violently inside of my chest,
I don’t have time to maintain these regrets,
When I think about the way…That He loves us
