I’m linking this up over at 152 Insights to My Soul.
From Kristin: #ThreeWordWednesday is simple, really. I know we’re all busy with life and kids and jobs and parents and friends and church and whatever else it is that occupies our time. Some weeks I’m not sure what my post will be about, but knowing people will show up here on Wednesdays is good motivation to write something. #ThreeWordWednesday is a chance to pause and hear God. Sum up what you’re hearing in three words. Those three words are enough. But stories are good too.
Joy in Accidents
I’m a clumsy person. Anyone that spends a little time with me will probably witness my clumsiness firsthand. It’s astonishing that I managed to never get a serious injury during my fifteen years as a dancer. It’s astonishing that I haven’t caused more damage to myself or items around me with my klutz factor. I’ve definitely done my share though
I chipped the edge of our stove not long after we moved in.
I break plates at least once a year.
I fall or stumble down (or up) the stairs at least once a week.
I’m like Jess in New Girl. Micah and I have decided it’s far too fitting
But back to my point. I’m just clumsy and uncoordinated for much of my day. And on Sunday while I was making refried beans for dinner I was trying to move spices around in the cupboard to get to others without actually taking any out. In my shuffling the spices started to fall. I tried to catch them but my hands were already full and not cooperating.
The garlic powder crashed to the floor.
The cap busted off.
This is a Sam’s Club sized container, y’all. As in 21oz of garlic powder. Okay so it wasn’t full since we use a lot of garlic powder but still. It was probably had at least 18oz inside. I say had because my stove, floor, and feet got a garlic bath.
All I could do was laugh. Because seriously? What else could I do? (And how funny is that perfect foot print!) It was no one’s fault but my own. I could have not tried to be lazy about moving spices around. I could have been a little less klutzy in my attempt to grab the falling container. But none of those things happened and now I was faced with a very garlic smelling kitchen.
Micah laughed and then gagged because it was a very overpowering smell. He grabbed the broom and swept up what he could. Then he attempted the vacuum. That didn’t work so well. I washed my feet off and gave them a quick scrub with some homemade sugar scrub (mini pampering moment almost!) then came to help again. We wiped down the floor, pulled out the drawer of the stove and wiped down underneath, and then scrubbed more floor down because the smell was still everywhere.
Now I have a clean kitchen floor. I took a moment to scrub my feet with special scrub in the hopes of really defeating the smell. We still have approximately 15 oz of garlic powder.
I chose to look at the good that comes out of my mistakes. To see joy in a moment of chaos. To not let something little ruin my attitude.
Made any mistakes lately that you were able to laugh at? Any fellow klutzy people out there?
