Promises for the Hungry Heart – Week 10 (Update)

Welcome back! If you are just joining us, we are using the YouVersion Bible App to follow a devotional together. Read THIS POST to get all the information you need to join in and then you can read THIS MORNING’S POST to see the promises we are focusing on this week.

Did you get a chance to spend some time with this week’s promises. I read them over and over and had such a hard time deciding which one stood out to me the most. Each one is so fantastic but the promise I am claiming this week is….

Your dedication to love others will show others you’re a real Christian.

We live in a world filled with jealousy, judgement, and hate. This seems to be the primary way that Satan chooses to cause death and destruction in our lives. It goes all the way back to Adam and Eve! The serpent made it seem as though God was keeping something magical away from them and they should have every right to be as knowledgeable as He is. And now we are filled with jealousy over what the neighbor across the street has, judgement about the mom with a tantruming toddler, and hate about those who think differently than us. None of that is from God.

There are so many issues dividing our world and country today but the only thing I want to do is show Christ’s love. Yelling at someone who is scared and alone while facing an unplanned pregnancy does not show her Christ’s love. Keeping people shut out because they are different does not show Christ’s love. Bashing people because they vote for a candidate that you don’t agree with doesn’t show Christ’s love.

I have friends and family from all different walks of life and in all sorts of different situations. If they make a choice I don’t agree with or that doesn’t line up with my world view do I blast them? NOPE. I continue to love them as I always have. Only through love will they see Christ in me. Christ met with prostitutes, tax collectors, and lepers. We are all sinners. We are all broken. We are all in need of His grace. I am no better, I am only saved by His blood.

Father God, Thank you for this promise that others will see you in us by the way we love them. Help us to love unconditionally, without judgement, and without fear, that we can offer a glimpse of your love to them. I pray that all those that we come into contact with would know that we serve you because of the way we love. Amen.

What promise stood out to you this week?
