I’m linking this up over at 152 Insights to My Soul.
From Kristin: #ThreeWordWednesday is simple, really. I know we’re all busy with life and kids and jobs and parents and friends and church and whatever else it is that occupies our time. Some weeks I’m not sure what my post will be about, but knowing people will show up here on Wednesdays is good motivation to write something. #ThreeWordWednesday is a chance to pause and hear God. Sum up what you’re hearing in three words. Those three words are enough. But stories are good too.
Watch the Trunk
Over the weekend Micah and I watched The Revenant. If you haven’t seen it the basic idea is that a fur trader back in the 1820’s is attacked by a bear and then left for dead by members of his crew. He overcomes incredible odds to survive. It’s a really well done movie but if you aren’t a fan of violence you may want to skip it or have a blanket to hide behind. It’s not crazy gory like some movies but there are some aggressive fights and other bloody moments.
Anyway, there was a quote that is repeated several times during the movie that really struck me.
“As long as you can still grab a breath, you fight. You breathe. Keep breathing. When there is a storm and you stand in front of a tree, if you look at its branches, you swear it will fall. But if you watch the trunk, you will see its stability.”
I immediately felt God in that quote. We go through so many storms in life but if our hope is in Him, if we are rooted in him, we should be able to stand strong through everything this life throws at us.
Life will never be without trouble. There will come times when problems are swirling around us and those on the outside will be sure that we can’t make it through. Job loss, death, bankruptcy, illness, infertility, infidelity, miscarriage, betrayal, the list goes on. Even more “minor” problems in the day to day can pile on and make us feel overwhelmed and unable to survive to the next day. But we have something the world doesn’t – we have Jesus.
By choosing to be rooted in Him our faith grows strong and we can weather any storm. Our lives and our faith can remain solid and be a testimony. I want people to see me facing the storm and standing strong. Remaining stable in Him. I want them to question how I’m able to stay upright and not crumble. And I want them to choose the same.
What do you think of the movie quote? Have you seen The Revenant?
