My Week’s Joy – 8/1-8/7

Inspired by one of my favorite blogs I thought it would be a great idea to look back each week at those things that brought me the most joy. This is far too fitting for my blog to ignore the idea so I look forward to posting these each week!

I loved having the whole gaggle of kids back together! We had a good week and fell back into our normal routine quickly. Unfortunately I need to start adjusting their schedules to the school year schedule but I’ve got a few weeks to slowly make the switch. There were lots of wonderful points of the week so let’s see where I found joy!

1. Back in a workout routine

If you follow me on Instagram or if you read my post on Wednesday you know I jumped back into P90X. I love how strong and confident finishing the workouts make me feel. I even woke up at 530am on Thursday morning to do the 90 minute yoga video! I’m posting each day on Instagram to keep me accountable (except Sundays because those are rest days) so you can follow along with my journey there!

2. Clean kitchen

I’ve been slacking with my nightly routine this summer because there isn’t as big of a rush in the mornings to get out the door. But now that school is only a few weeks away I know I need to get back in the habit of getting it cleaned up before I turn in for the night. Micah was working late so I got all the kids in bed, turned on some great 80’s music, and started a timer. I got the whole kitchen done (dishwasher loaded, hand washing done, counters and table wiped off) in just over 30 minutes. I can’t really say it takes forever when I can get that much done in a fairly short period of time. Plus I got to dance to some sweet songs.

3. Raspberries

I was thrilled when we looked at this house and Micah pointed out the raspberry bush. I love, love, love raspberries but hate buying them in store because they cost so stinking much! I grew up with raspberry bushes and have extremely fond memories of picking bowlfuls during the summer. Our bush is pretty small right now but some day it might produce more. For now we enjoy the occasional treat we get.

4. Park date with friends

A friend from church invited us over to hang out and spend some time at their neighborhood park this week. We let the kids run wild (Mercedes was running so much I couldn’t grab a picture of her) while we sat and chatted. We also let the kids enjoy a picnic lunch on her deck. The kids had so much fun and it was wonderful spending time with such a wonderful friend.

5. Super Mercedes!

We had an infestation of super heroes in the house this week. The kids tied blankets on and ran around saving the day. Mercedes happens to have this great blanket made by one of my sweet aunts that fits the super hero cape roll perfectly. They had a blast coming up with different ways to save the day together.

6. Donuts!

It’s become tradition that when Micah goes out of town for work we go out for donuts (sorry babe!) and this week was no exception. I piled all five into the van and off we went. The whole ride was filled with the kids discussion what type of donut they would choose. The little guys picked Cookie Monster donuts, Mercedes picked a maple bacon long john, Parker chose a s’mores donut, and Jamison had a peanut butter frosted fried cinnamon roll. He’s a kid after my own heart. So yummy!

7. This guy

His schedule may be a little crazy right now but when he’s home he is flooded with kids. I was wearing Cade in a carrier or he would have been right there as well. My heart swells every time he does things like this… which is every time he’s home. I love what a family focused man I married!

8. Mommy-son date

Jamison and I finally got to go on our mommy-son date! He chose a library visit,  lunch at Sonic, and playing at a park. We got to chat about the school year starting soon, how to play baseball (there was a tournament going on at the park), and lots of little topics in between. It was wonderful spending that one-on-one time with him.
