Promises for the Hungry Heart – Week 18 (Update)

Welcome back! If you are just joining us, we are using the YouVersion Bible App to follow a devotional together. Read THIS POST to get all the information you need to join in and then you can read THIS MORNING’S POST to see the promises we are focusing on this week.

Did you get a chance to spend some time with this week’s promises? I struggled for a little while choosing one this week. They are all great but none immediately jumped out at me. I want to choose promises that really speak to my heart and where I’m at or what I’m struggling with and this week they didn’t line up as well. Or at least I didn’t think they did. After spending some quiet time reading them over and over I realized how much they each really speak to my heart right now! This was especially true when I looked at the way the devotional summarizes the verse and the verse itself.

The verse I chose this week is…

When you give Me your troubles, you’ll be unshakeable. Psalm 55:22

Oh sweet friend, what is troubling you right now? What feels like thousands of pounds upon your shoulders? Do you have bills pilling up and the funds simply aren’t there? Do you feel alone in your marriage? Are you tired of the monotony of every day life? Are you struggling to find your footing in the stage of life you are in? Are you dealing with illness or the loss of a loved one? Do you have trouble controlling your emotions?

My dear friend, you are not alone. Not only are thousands upon thousands of us waving our hands saying, “Me! I struggle with that!” but you have a God that felt those struggles when He walked on this earth. He bore every bit of pain, illness, and hardship that we could experience as He hung on that cross. And He did it all because He loves you.

I don’t have the answers to your problems. I don’t have the answers to my own. But I know I can turn to the One who does. You can ask Him for recovery, for redemption, for healing, for guidance. There is nothing too big or too broken for our God to fix. I’ve seen God take people that most would consider “beyond repair” and bring incredible restoration to their lives. The testimony these people can share now is powerful and speaks to how amazing our God really is.

@@Turn to Him, to the one that gives life, and cast your cares on Him.@@ Pour out your soul and tell Him everything that worries you, burdens you, or troubles you. He already knows it but by confessing it to Him you can turn it over and let Him cover you in His grace and mercy. Trust in His plan and let Him carry the weight of your troubles.  He WILL take care of you.

Heavenly Father, only you know exactly what each of us struggle with in our lives. You know what we wish we could change and what is weighing us down. I pray that we would each come to you with an open heart and pour these burdens out at the cross to leave at your feet. I thank you that you promise that if we turn our worries and troubles over to you that you will sustain us and never let us stumble. Give us the faith we need to believe this and not keep picking our troubles back up to carry by ourselves. I thank you in Jesus name, Amen.

What verse did you pick this week? Do you find it easy to turn your troubles over to God or do you try and carry them yourself?
