Promises for the Hungry Heart – Week 21 {Update}

Welcome back! If you are just joining us, we are using the YouVersion Bible App to follow a devotional together. Read THIS POST to get all the information you need to join in and then you can read THIS MORNING’S POST to see the promises we are focusing on this week.

I jumped on a verse right away this week! It’s a favorite. In fact, I’ve thought of having this verse turned into a tattoo of some type because I love it so much! Do you know which verse I’m talking about? The verse I chose this week is…

Deciding which direction to go? I will most certainly help you choose wisely. Psalm 119:105

There is nothing in this world that can give wisdom, insight, guidance, or peace like the Word of God. I wish I spent as much time in it as I should. I wake up in the morning and I read two devotionals. One is focusing on God’s grace and only has me reading one or two verses each day. The other I’m doing at the moment is focusing on Ecclesiastes and I read four to ten verses in that. By the time I finish those and get breakfast going the rest of the house is up and buzzing so spending quiet time with God doesn’t happen further.

In the afternoon when the kids are napping or having quiet time, and after I’ve gotten in my workout, I try to sit down and work on blog work. Sometimes this includes pulling out my Bible to find verses and stories to pull from. Other times the little guys are up as soon as I finish my workout and blog work gets put on hold until after all the kids are in bed.

I’m really enjoying doing this devotional because it forces me to pause and really think about what I’m reading, not just check something off my to do list. The more weeks that go by and the more verses I’m reading the more I’m seeing God work. He uses these verses to remind me of times in my life when He’s been faithful. He’s using them to get me to think about the world around me. He’s pointing me to verses that become vital days or weeks later when talking with friends. His word is alive and interactive. It’s not simply words on a page or a screen but it’s God’s love letter to each and every one of us.

Have you ever done a blind Bible reading? I don’t even know if that’s what others call it but what I do sometimes is randomly flip to a page in my Bible and then close my eyes and point to a section. If I’m using my phone I’ll pull up the list of books and scroll up and down with out looking and then click one. Same with the chapter and verse. I’m amazed at how often the words I read speak right to my heart.

Do it with me right now. Open your Bible to a random page. You can even just let it fall open to where it wants. Close your eyes and point. Where did you land? What did it say?

I landed on 1 Peter 4:8-11

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.

— 1 Peter 4:8-11

So very good and so very relevant for me right now! Tomorrow marks the beginning of another MOPS (Mothers of PreSchoolers) year. I’ve mentioned before that I’m on the leadership team for our group and my roll this year is hospitality. I’m behind the scenes making the room feel welcoming, sending out cards, and getting gifts. I’m making things and buying giveaway items. And I’m loving all of it. I’m using the gifts God has given me to serve others. I pray that through my service more moms will find encouragement and a deeper relationship with Jesus.

His word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path. But I need to read His word, absorb His word, know His word, to turn on that light.

What verse did you choose this week? Have you ever randomly started reading in the Bible and found the words to be exactly what you needed to hear? Tell me what verse you landed on randomly today in the comments below!
