Inspired by one of my favorite blogs I thought it would be a great idea to look back each week at those things that brought me the most joy. This is far too fitting for my blog to ignore the idea so I look forward to posting these each week!
It was Micah’s birthday last week along with a short week at school. Add in the cooler fall temps and it was a wonderful week! There was a really strong thunderstorm that kept us inside one day but we enjoyed watching the rain pour down and fill up the buckets on the deck. These are the other moments that brought me joy over the week!
1. Sushi-eating kids
We ordered a platter of sushi for Micah’s birthday last week and again we were amazed at how much the kids ate! Piece after piece and they kept asking for more. Even Mercedes, who hasn’t been a fan before, bravely tried a piece of a Philly roll and said she liked it. I’m thankful we have kids who are willing to try new things. It took them close to a year of seeing us eat sushi to be willing to try it but now that they have they can’t get enough. The big boys keep asking us to take them to our favorite all-you-can-eat sushi place. We told them we will need to save up but that at some point we can probably do that.
2. Beautiful weather for outside time
I adore fall weather. My perfect weather is low to mid 70’s for a high during the day with low to mid 50’s at night. Aaaahhh. The temps in our area have been working their way to that point and last week we all ventured to the yard to play since the sun wasn’t blasting us five minutes into play time. We did get chowed by mosquitos but at least it wasn’t bugs + scorching heat. I’m looking forward to more nice afternoons outside with the kids soaking up the refreshing fall temps.
3. Helpful and determined
There is no stopping this girl when she puts her mind to something. She loves pulling the wagon on the way home from dropping the big boys at school. When you add the weight of the boys plus the wagon she is probably pulling somewhere between 60 and 70 pounds – nearly double her body weight! She insists she can do it and actually does a pretty darn good job. It makes me exhausted to think about doing the same thing but thrilled that she accomplishes things she sets her mind to doing.
4. My new canvas
One of my goals for September is to paint more and this is the first painting I got done. I never painted beyond middle school art class but I’m trying to stretch my comfort zone for different areas of my life and I’m really excited about what I’m learning. Now I just need to find a place to hang it!
5. All set up for MOPS!
My MOPS (Mothers of PreSchoolers) group held our first meeting last week. Our youth group has partnered with us to get the tables and chairs set up so all I need to do is get the decorations placed. It worked so well last week and made me incredibly excited to begin another year. God has always done amazing things in our group and I’m ready to see what He has in store for the moms this year.
6. New pjs
A sweet friend of mine was having a garage sale over the weekend and her youngest girls are a few years older than Mercedes. I stopped by to chat and browse and found several items for the little lady. Her favorite is this pair of pjs. She beamed with happiness and gratitude over them and has worn them every night since Saturday. I’m not sure how to get them away from her long enough to wash them! She has such a thankful and sweet heart over very simple things and that brings me great joy!
7. Silly faces!
We all spent some time being silly on Sunday night. The boys were wrestling and Mercedes and I made lots of crazy faces. Kissy, angry, happy, scared, sad, silly, and BIG EYES. She is such a doll and silly goose!
