Every week I like to take a moment to showcase the moments that brought me the most joy. Sometimes they are awesome activities and other times it’s a sweet moment between the kids. There are always moments that can fill us with joy if we choose to see them with a thankful heart.
That week between Christmas and New Years… I tell ya. I had no clue what day it was most of the time! And I was even more thrown off because Micah took the whole week off work. So confused! But it was the first time in our ten years of marriage that he’s ever been able to do that and it was incredibly wonderful. We really enjoyed soaking up time with the kids and playing with all the new toys together.
Where else did I find joy?
1. New PJs
The little guys got these new pajamas for Christmas and they LOVE THEM. They yell for them each night (and pout a little when they aren’t clean). The best part is when they say, “I Woody!” or “I Buzz!” depending on which character they are wearing. They are just the sweetest!
2. Goofy meal times
During lunch one day Jamison asked for a hard boiled egg. He decided to stick the entire yolk in his mouth at once, not realizing how dry it would be on its own. Then his water bottle was empty. He tried so hard to form words, his mouth full of moisture sucking yolk, and as we kept “egging” him on to say what he wanted he was giggling harder and harder. He had a few moments where the food almost came out but he managed to keep it all in. We were all laughing pretty hard by the time he finally swallowed it down.
3. Holiday exhaustion
We knew this moment would hit at some point – lots of celebrations, very few naps, and overload of excitement means at some point they’ve got to recharge. We were watching a movie one afternoon only to find both Mercedes and Jamison out cold on the couch. And they napped for a good hour each. We had to wake Jamison up for dinner and even then he was incredibly hard to rouse! But those sweet faces <3
4. Cuddles
These two butt heads like crazy because their personalities are so similar. But they also love spending time together. Every once in a while we catch a moment like this and it reminds us why we decided to have several kids super close together.
5. Holiday lights
The last couple years we have driven around town to look at the houses all decked out in lights on Christmas Eve. That didn’t work this year with all the family visiting so we decided to wait and do it this week instead. One night after dinner we all piled into the van along with hot cocoa and Christmas cookies. We meandered through random neighborhoods and found a house that has been featured in our local newspaper for it’s display that is synced to music. The kids were impressed and begged to stay longer at that house but there were other cars lining up so we didn’t want to hog up a spot for too long.
Now it’s back to reality of school and work. My plan is to get some prep done today for breakfasts for the week so I’m not coming up with plans last minute like I have been. I hope you all have a wonderful week!
Where did you find joy this week? How did you ring in the new year?
