Promises for the Hungry Heart – Week 48 {Update}

Welcome back! If you are just joining us, we are using the YouVersion Bible App to follow a devotional together. Read THIS POST to get all the information you need to join in and then you can read THIS MORNING’S POST to see the promises we are focusing on this week.

Well, we made it! We got through all 48 weeks of promises. That means we looked at 192 of God’s promises – and I know there are so many more! Don’t let the end of this study mean the end of searching through the Bible for what God promises us. His word stands true forever.

‘Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst. The sun will not beat down on them,’ nor any scorching heat. For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; ‘he will lead them to springs of living water.’ ‘And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.’

— Revelation 7:16-17, NIV

Eternal comfort. That’s what this verse promises. No more struggles, no more pain, no more hard times. Amen? Amen.

We are told we will have trouble here on earth. There is no way around it. The earth, and not a single place on it) is paradise, no matter how much the travel ads want to make you think otherwise. Sure there are places that can be considered more beautiful than others but visiting those places doesn’t make your troubles magically disappear and the people who live in those “paradise” locations experience hardships just like the rest of us in our less than idyllic locations.

Whatever trials or heartache you are facing here will not last forever. We have hope and joy in knowing that one day we will join Him in paradise. Real paradise. Where we will spend eternity worshiping Him! No more financial strain, no more medical tests, no more loads of laundry (or so I’d like to believe). The aching in our soul will be gone because it will be in the presence of our mighty King!

So here in this world, when you feel the sun beating down on you and you are sure that you can’t survive one more day in the scorching heat without relief remember that our relief has come. His burden is easy and His yoke is light (Matthew 11:30). He will assist you through the desert until it is your turn to join him in the beautiful oasis. No more sorrow, no more pain, no more disappointment. He will wipe every tear from your eyes.

Father God, I thank you that we know what awaits us. We don’t need to fear the end because of the hope we have in Christ. Strengthen our faith here on earth while we wait for the day we join you in Heaven. I pray, Lord, that we would face our challenges with you as our conqueror and not get sidetracked by the trials in this world. In Jesus mighty name, Amen.

What promise did you focus on this week? How do you stay focused on Heaven and not on the day to day troubles? How do you picture Heaven?
