Every week I like to take a moment to showcase the moments that brought me the most joy. Sometimes they are awesome activities and other times it’s a sweet moment between the kids. There are always moments that can fill us with joy if we choose to see them with a thankful heart.

How was your week? I thought we had a fairly calm and quiet week and that I wouldn’t have much to share – and then I looked back through my pictures and actually had to choose my favorites because there were so many! This is why I think it’s so important to keep track of your joy and gratitude. It’s easy to forget just how amazing this life is and how many wonderful moments there are if we aren’t focused on them. You can always grab my free printable journals if you need a way to write yours down.
1. Easter!
We had a really nice and quiet (as quiet as it can be with 5 smallish kids) at home, just the seven of us. The kids each got a small basket with a few gifts and we did an egg hunt after naps. We enjoyed a nice breakfast at church and spent time enjoying the sun. Thank you, Jesus, for your sacrifice that we celebrated.
2. Starting the garden
We’ve ignored our garden for the last two summers we’ve lived here so this year we want to try and put it to good use rather than a showcase for the neighborhood’s tallest weeds. The kids are excited about growing food but not so excited about the work to get the garden ready. We’ve told them that if they put in the work to get it prepped they can choose one thing to grow. Jamison wants tomatoes and Parker wants bell peppers. I believe Mercedes chose strawberries. Anders and Cade have no clue what’s going on but I think they agreed to cucumbers. I think all of those will be simple enough for us to handle without too much effort on our part.
3. This awesome meal
I’m trying to watch what I’m eating a little better and make some healthy swaps. We had leftover fajita fixings so I started making these for lunch and they are amazing! A little messy because the romaine doesn’t hold the insides as well as a tortilla but the flavor is incredible. And I didn’t miss the tortilla! Yay for healthy choices 😉
4. Running
I still wish I would have snagged a picture of the sunrise on Wednesday morning but at least I can picture it when I close my eyes. And the feeling of seeing it while listening to worship music has stuck with me all week. I’m actually itching to get out running in the morning because I feel so close to God while out there pounding the pavement and attempting to not sing out loud.
5. Date night!
Our church hosted another night out so we dropped the kids off to spend a few hours as a couple. We hit up a few home improvement stores (as ya do when you’re kid free) then ate dinner at a BBQ joint. Our dinner was flavored really well but lacked sauce. That was a little disappointing but the flavor was still great and we brought food home. And time just the two of us is always worth it.
Where did you find joy in your chaos this week? I’d love to hear about it in the comments!
