Happy May Day! I hope you all enjoyed your Easter season and the signs of spring. Apparently we needed to be reminded of winter an extra time as we got hit with about three inches of snow last week. It came down all darn day after being 70 a few days prior. I’m ready for 70s again! I want to play outside and go for walks.

Goals for April – Wrap Up

1. Family Goal – Study the Easter Story

We went through two Easter devotionals as a family during breakfast. One during Holy week where each day focused on the part of the story that took place that day and another that focused on Jesus’ resurrection. It was really interesting to hear the kids’ perspectives on the stories. Mercedes is fixated on the crown of thorns these days and mentions it during most devotional times… even if it has nothing to do with the subject! We also had some great discussions with the bigger boys about what a huge sacrifice the crucifixion really was and how we can live out our gratitude.

2. Home Goal – Donate the clutter

Holy buckets did it feel good to donate all of that! The two pictures inside the car are all from us – and actually we added a bit more after this was taken. WHY OH WHY did we have that much unnecessary junk cluttering up our home? And that doesn’t even include the items I sold in order to buy the Ultimate Homemaking Bundle. The pictures of the racks are what my MOPS group had donated so far when I dropped our piles off. Hopefully this is a great fundraiser for our group!

3. Self Goal – Study vs. reading

Ugh. I failed at this goal. Seriously. Micah and I started working through a new study together but we only managed to get through about two lessons out of sixteen. And even my own Bible reading was really lacking. I can’t blame my running because I only managed to get in four days of running. Pure laziness of wanting more sleep. I think I need to start going to bed before midnight (or maybe even 11) to set myself up for better mornings. I’ve also picked out a new study, specifically for me. I found it in the Ultimate Homemaking Bundle – no joke – and it’s called The Glorious Ordinary: An Invitation to Study God’s Word in Your Everyday Life by Sarah E. Frazer. I’m looking forward to it!

Goals for May

I spent some time thinking and praying about how to approach my goals and decided focusing on one area was helpful initially but now I need to spread my focus a little more. Now I’ll have a single goal for different areas: family, home, and self. As I continue to see how this works I may expand the number of areas to make sure I’m growing as I need to be.

1. Family Goal – Complete our study of Acts

We began a new morning devotional on the book of Acts. It’s a 30 day study and we have completed just shy of a week. Some mornings things are hectic and we miss out on reading (or some kids are crazy and we can’t get any calm conversation in) so it often takes us longer than the set amount of days to complete a study. Finishing by the end of the month should be totally possible.

2. Home Goal – Prepare for Summer

It’s our final month before school lets out so we need to get our schedules, plans and house ready for days of five kids at home. I plan on doing some extra freezer cooking so we have snacks on hand plus easy meals to throw together when we feel like hanging out in the backyard rather than in the kitchen. I’m also setting up Bible study lessons to do with the kids that are included in the Ultimate Homemaking Bundle as well as prepping a daily schedule so we actually get everything we want done!

3. Self Goal – Complete three more weeks of running

I started the Couch to 5k program for running and I’m really enjoying the time in the morning. Unfortunately living in the midwest means weather is not always my friend. It’s been three weeks since I did my first day and I’ve only gotten to run four times… when I should be able to go three times each week. Last week the snow stopped me but now that it’s gone and the weather is showing 40s for the mornings I should be able to fit in three again. By the time May ends I want to be done with week 4 of training.
