Donut picnic, splash pad, and the family reuinited – six places I found joy in the chaos

Every week I like to take a moment to showcase the moments that brought me the most joy. Sometimes they are awesome activities and other times it’s a sweet moment between the kids. There are always moments that can fill us with joy if we choose to see them with a thankful heart.

As much fun as it was to be gone for over two weeks we are so happy to be home! There is nothing like sleeping in your own bed. I’m ready to get back into our normal groove and find a new normal for the summer.

The second half of our trip was so weird because the whole family was broken apart. Micah had to travel to Orlando for work and the two big boys stayed at his parents house for some special time with Grammy and Papa. I “only” had three kids for the week but they still know how to cause plenty of chaos without their big brothers!

1. Donut Picnic

First up for our week of fun was a special breakfast. We picked up a dozen donuts and my sister and had a picnic at the park next to her house. Yummy and fun!

2. Special Celebration

We originally didn’t think attending this would be possible because the plans for our trip had us going home after only a week. When Micah got scheduled for a work trip it worked out for me to hang out at my parents house and be a part of this incredible moment. My dad earned his 15 year sobriety medallion and I am so incredibly proud of him! We got to see him receive his medallion and listen to a few stories of what he means to others as well as what this milestone means to him. He lives out what it means to humble yourself before God so he can be your strength. After we went back to the house and gave him his Father’s day gifts a few days early.

3. Splash Pad

The park near my parents house has a splash pad so I packed up the kids and took them for a picnic lunch and some water play. They were way more excited about the actual playground rather than the splash pad but I think it’s because it was a bit windy and not quite hot enough for lots of water.

4. Daddy is Home

After a week apart we got to pick up Micah at the airport and grab dinner to celebrate him being home. This picture simply melts my heart and I only wish that Cade was sitting over there instead of with me so all three were in this shot.

5. Together Again

And finally we got to pick up the big boys and grab some appetizers with Grammy and Papa. It was so nice for them to get some special time away but it also feels weird not having the family together. It’s loud and chaotic and often borders on insanity but anything less feels unnatural at this point.

6. Happy Anniversary

Micah and I celebrated 11 years together this weekend! We got married on his parents property and they still have the arch in place where we said our vows. Now that they are moving we won’t be able to see it anymore so we grabbed a family picture to show the difference of 11 years in the same spot.

Where did you find joy in your chaos this week?
