Hair cuts, Mr. Potatohead Glasses, and Card Games – 6 places I found joy in the chaos this week

Every week I like to take a moment to showcase the moments that brought me the most joy. Sometimes they are awesome activities and other times it’s a sweet moment between the kids. There are always moments that can fill us with joy if we choose to see them with a thankful heart.

With only a month left of summer break I needed to make sure we were taking advantage of our time. I took the kids to the library across town with the better kids area and on a walk to the park. We also made a trip to the store so we could drop off a care package to a friend having a rough day and had a couple extra friends come over and hang out with us. So many good moments this week!

1. Hair cuts

The little boys got their first hair cuts back in February and as much as we LOVE their “boing boing curls” they were getting in their mouths during meals and hard to keep clean. They look so grown up! Only 3 more months until they turn three :O

2. New Bible study

One of my July goals was to start a new study with the kids on minding our mouths. I finally got started this week and I wish I hadn’t procrastinated so much. They are really enjoying the activities and have fun answers to the questions. We’ve been sitting down after dinner which gives the kids motivation to finish on time and not be pokey while eating. “If we run out of time we cant color our Bible verse!”

3. Mr. Potatohead glasses

This cracks me up every time they do it. They’ve also tried to put the glasses on the dog and I’m waiting for the time they poke her in the eye with it. But that smile! Such a goofy personality on this kid.

4. Little helper

We began a new chore system this summer and the little boys switch off between floors and pets. For floors all I really ask them to do is pick up the garbage and the fridge magnets in the kitchen. Cade wanted to take it one step further this week and asked to vacuum on cleaning day. Sounds good, kid! He only lasted a minute or so when he deemed the vacuum, “too heavy.”

5. Sleeping soundly

This boy is going to be 9 this fall. Halfway to adulthood. Be still my heart when I find these moments to capture. No matter how go-go-go he seems he can still crash hard from time to time.

6. Card games

I taught the big boys to play Skip-Bo this week (after re learning myself) and we played two games so far. They are eager for more! I love playing cards and I’m loving this age for learning new games. I’ve always wanted to have family game nights but with super littles it’s very hard! But now at naps and bedtime I can let the big boys stay up for an extra half hour so we can have some fun.
