Every week I like to take a moment to showcase the moments that brought me the most joy. Sometimes they are awesome activities and other times it’s a sweet moment between the kids. There are always moments that can fill us with joy if we choose to see them with a thankful heart.

We were cooped up inside a bit this week because of rain but we still tried to sneak outside when the weather cleared. I got to go out with friends on Thursday night for dinner and dessert and we all went out as a family on Saturday for an end of summer lunch. We’ve got this one full week left and then a couple days the following week before school starts. I’m ready and I’m not. I’m ready, and then I’m not. We’ll see how I do when it actually begins!
1. Muddy fun
After the rain earlier in the week the kids went to the backyard to immediately discover the dirt under the deck had become quite the mud pit. They had fun getting covered in mud and I had fun hosing them off before they could go back inside!
2. Pizza & Playdate
We’ve decided this needs to be an annual event. We did it a couple years ago and just so happened to do it the same week this year. Nicole and I got our nine kids together for a playdate followed by a pizza feast for lunch. Amazingly, four medium pizzas fed all of us – granted one was only six months old – with a few slices left over.
3. Thumbs up!
I tried teaching Anders to give a thumbs up this week and while this picture shows his success I’m surprised I caught this shot. He keeps starting with his first finger and going through a variety of other finger combinations before figuring it out. But he’s so darn cute!
4. New kitchen toy
The Kohl’s discounts lined up perfectly this month for us! I was given a Virtual VoxBox from Influenster with $10 Kohl’s cash, my $10 birthday Kohl’s cash arrived, we got a coupon for $15 off a $50 purchase and I got the 30% off code for using my Kohl’s card! We’ve wanted this shredder for a while and it was on sale for $49.99, normally $59.99, so we threw in a new clear shower curtain to push us over the $50 minimum. After all the discounts we paid just over $22 for both items! We’ve already made hash browns for breakfast and I’m ready to shred ALL THE THINGS!
5. Millenium Falcon
If you’ve been around long enough you probably know how much we love LEGO. I bought this set for Micah for Christmas and we are finally getting a chance to build it together. We alternate steps (yay, teamwork!) and watch one of our favorite shows. We also split a delectable red velvet cupcake from a local bakery. Yum!
6. Harry Potter & the Sorcerer’s Stone
The boys have been waiting all summer to watch this movie and since finishing the book a couple weeks ago it’s only become harder to wait. We got through the first hour on Saturday and are hoping to finish it soon. They are soaking it up but also noticing the differences between the book and the film. I’m glad they paid enough attention to the book and remember all those details.
Where did you find joy in your chaos this week?
