A peek at our weekly grocery shopping
Each week I plan on sharing a picture of our cart at each store along with a breakdown on what we bought and what we paid. Thankfully we have zero dietary restrictions or allergies which helps us keep our budget on the low side. We try to stick between $80-90 each week for our family of seven. A lot of times what is on the menu doesn’t directly correlate to what we buy because I like to plan our meals from what we have on hand currently and use our budget to stock up on good buys plus produce and dairy products.
I didn’t plan things very well this week. I completely forgot to grab my receipts for posting how much we spent at each store, gah! But thankfully both Walmart and Sam’s Club list their prices online so I can easily figure out what we spent there. The only thing not listed (and not photographed) were the apples we bought at a local store and a couple packs of cheese slices at Target.
So anyway, it’s a disorganized week but it’s Micah birthday week! Our birthdays are only a week apart but technically we are 51 weeks apart because I turned 33 last Tuesday and he will turn 34 this Tuesday. He requested brownie sundaes so I need to buy a can of cocoa powder and I’ll be set.

I love menu planning and seeing other’s dinner plans! I’m weird like that 😉 As I’ve shared before, being in the kitchen is my happy place so I love finding meals that are new but I also never forget our favorites! These will link to the author’s original recipe unless it’s my own recipe/creation that I don’t have a link for… yet.

I don’t make specific plans for breakfast and lunch but these are the basics I rotate between while throwing in a few other things for special days or weeks when I have the right ingredients.
Breakfasts: Pancakes, Coffee Cake, Egg Sandwiches, Sausage Balls, Eggs (various ways), English Muffins, Banana Bread, Biscuits and Gravy, Oatmeal, and various types of muffins.
Lunches: Leftovers, PB&J, Meat and Cheese Wraps, Cheese Quesadillas, and Mac ‘n’ Cheese.
Dinners, however, are always planned for since they tend to take the most ingredients and prep time.
Here’s what’s on our menu this week:
Sunday: Family dinner – We are eating with Micah’s family so I’m not in charge of the menu today!
Monday: Potato Cheese Soup – We needed something easy for when we return home and our potato cheese soup recipe only takes about 30 minutes. I don’t care if it’s still warm out, the calendar says September so it’s fall!
Tuesday: Sushi – Happy Birthday to Micah! We ordered the platter last week and brownie sundaes are on the menu for dessert.
Wednesday: One Pot Cheeseburger Pasta – I could eat just about every dish Meg shares. I’ll stay away from the pumpkin but everything else can can
Friday: Homemade Pizza and Movie Night – pizza crust recipe here and pizza sauce recipe here.
Saturday: Upside Down Meatloaf – I grew up eating this version of meatloaf and crave the incredible brown sugar/ketchup mixture that is created. We don’t put onions in ours but occasionally we will add black beans to make the meat stretch a little further! It’s best served with mashed potatoes for the extra sauce.
