A peek at our weekly grocery shopping
Each week I plan on sharing a picture of our cart at each store along with a breakdown on what we bought and what we paid. Thankfully we have zero dietary restrictions or allergies which helps us keep our budget on the low side. We try to stick between $80-90 each week for our family of seven. A lot of times what is on the menu doesn’t directly correlate to what we buy because I like to plan our meals from what we have on hand currently and use our budget to stock up on good buys plus produce and dairy products.
Anyone else get ridiculously excited over the drop in prices of baking supplies this time of year? I know it’s my chance to really get a good supply built for not only holiday baking but also for into the new year as well. It’s a bit of a bummer when stores put a limit on the super good deals (like the flour for less than $1 for a 5lb bag) but I understand. Plus it’s easier for me to stay in budget when there’s a limit!
My parents came to town this weekend so our menu changed a little this weekend. We were supposed to have sticky chicken wraps tonight but they brought salmon for the adults and crispy shrimp for the kids. I’ll save the chicken wraps for tomorrow, but I put the salmon on this week’s menu so it didn’t seem like were were eating the same thing two nights in a row.
Has anyone started getting supplies for Thanksgiving yet? We are hosting and by hosting I mean Micah’s parents are coming. There will only be nine of us and five of those are under age 10 so I know we don’t need a major spread but at the same time… Thanksgiving! Food! Micah’s mom and I are trying to figure out the menu without having twenty dishes of leftovers. What are your must have Thanksgiving foods?

Menu Plan
I love menu planning and seeing other’s dinner plans! I’m weird like that 😉 As I’ve shared before, being in the kitchen is my happy place so I love finding meals that are new but I also never forget our favorites! These will link to the author’s original recipe unless it’s my own recipe/creation that I don’t have a link for… yet.
If you need some inspiration for how to create menu plans you can read here where I go into detail about how I make a plan for our food week and here to read how I create our grocery list.
I don’t make specific plans for breakfast and lunch but these are the basics I rotate between while throwing in a few other things for special days or weeks when I have the right ingredients.
Breakfasts: Pancakes, Coffee Cake, Egg Sandwiches, Sausage Balls, Eggs (various ways), English Muffins, Banana Bread, Biscuits and Gravy, Oatmeal, and various types of muffins.
Lunches: Leftovers, PB&J, Meat and Cheese Wraps, Cheese Quesadillas, and Mac ‘n’ Cheese.
Dinners, however, are always planned for since they tend to take the most ingredients and prep time.
Here’s what’s on our menu this week:
Sunday: Salmon & Twice Baked Potatoes – Yum! And such a treat to get salmon. Thanks to my parents for treating us to a great dinner 😀
Monday: Turkey & Cheese Party Rolls – Because CashWise had a good deal on deli turkey I decided to try this recipe out. This one could go either way with the kids!
Tuesday: Honey Garlic Chicken Stir Fry – It’s a new recipe for us! This recipe uses items that we almost always have on hand so I’m hoping its a hit with the kids.
Wednesday: BBQ Chicken Pizza – This is Jamison’s request this week. He actually asked for three different flavors of pizza in one week but I told him we need to mix up the menu a bit and not eat pizza every night (even though I totally want to but we don’t have enough cheese).
Thursday: Leftovers
Friday: Homemade Pizza and Movie Night – pizza crust recipe here and pizza sauce recipe here.
Saturday: Burgers – Mercedes has been begging for burgers for weeks because they are apparently “her favorite.” Okay, little girl. We can have burgers
