Every week I like to take a moment to showcase the moments that brought me the most joy. Sometimes they are awesome activities and other times it’s a sweet moment between the kids. There are always moments that can fill us with joy if we choose to see them with a thankful heart.

This week, I tell ya… I was mostly going through the motions this week. My whole brain was occupied by this flea issue we are dealing with. It’s so gross. I hate it. The dumb cat brought home fleas the last time she escaped and now we can’t seem to get rid of them. We are trying EVERYTHING and just when we think they are gone a new one shows up the next day.
I’ve been stripping beds, vacuuming daily, shampooing carpets, quarantining the pets, and bathing everyone in dish soap. If this isn’t a prime example of chaos, I don’t know what is! But there is still joy mixed in. There are still things to be grateful for when we look.
1. Lazy Sunday
A few of the kids had low fevers and coughs last weekend so we stayed home from church. It was weird to not get everyone ready and out the door but it was nice to spend the day in pjs, play games, and get in some extra family time.
2. Clean carpets!
We’ve lived in our home for just over three years now and have never shampooed the carpets. They were pretty bad when we moved in but because Mercedes was potty training at the time and we knew we’d be potty training two more boys after her we figured we’d let it slide. Plus I popped out those twins about two months after we moved in. I didn’t expect all the stains to come out (and they didn’t) but other spots are like a night and day difference!
3. Game breaks
In the middle of all the carpet shampooing the kids asked if I would play a game with them. It would have been easy to say no, that I needed to keep working, but I made a deal. If they could wait until I finished the one room I was in the middle of we would play a couple rounds. They patiently waited for about 20 minutes for me to finish and then we played Yatzee Jr. It was the little boys first time playing and they did really well! Totally worth break in my cleaning spree.
4. Tracing letters
During our school time I let the little boys follow along because they want to do the same things as Mercedes. They have their own binders but they don’t usually trace their letters, and I wouldn’t expect them to – they are only three! Anders likes to trace and can do a great job but normally Cade just scribbles on all his sheets. This week he tried really hard to trace the letter F and was so proud of what he did. So was I!
Kudos to your cleaning effort. The time the dogs got fleas was terrible. You can do it!!
