Live cooking, box naps, and the oldest kid – 4 places I found joy in the chaos this week

Every week I like to take a moment to showcase the moments that brought me the most joy. Sometimes they are awesome activities and other times it’s a sweet moment between the kids. There are always moments that can fill us with joy if we choose to see them with a thankful heart.

Um, is it really February? Yup, yup it is. That means it’s almost birthday season again around these parts. Mercedes’ birthday is in less than two weeks so she’s been busy changing her mind about food and dessert every time I ask her about it. I think she’s finally settled on a real menu for her actual day and party but cake design is still a constant struggle. She comes up with an idea, we spend time on Pinterest getting a visual, then the next day it’s a new idea. It was way easier when I could suggest something and she would agree. Darn these kids having an opinion of their own 😉

I spent the week coming up with a few new ideas for around here and I’m hoping they turn out as great as my brain thinks they will because I think they are super fun! But I also have that mind that thinks my creative ability is far superior than it actually is so reality might have some things to say in my plans.

February also marks another year blogging. Wowza. Two years this month! I think it’s about time for another survey so I can decide what y’all really need from me and how I can best serve you. If you aren’t interested in hearing about a topic then it doesn’t make sense for me to rattle on about it for ages, know what I mean? I’ll probably have that survey up sometime this month and I’ll send it out to my subscribers first so if you want to make sure you get your voice heard then jump on the mailing list and you can get weekly messages from me and get access to my library of free printables.

1. Live cooking demo

This year one of my goals is to grow my private Facebook group aimed at Meal Planning. I’ve been going live on different topics each week and this week I talked about where to find new menu ideas while I did a few different cooking demos. I made hard cooked eggs in the instant pot and a big batch of croutons. It was slightly chaotic (surprise, surprise) because the three kids were helping me but It was also pretty fun. If you want to watch me try to cook live with my kids and learn more about meal planning come over and join us! It’s a fun group 😀

2. Box napping

Yup, she’s napping in a box. Well, I guess only her legs are in the box. I just don’t even know, you guys. But – she’s napping! That doesn’t happen very often anymore so I’m glad that she napped, no matter how it happened. Plus, this is simply hilarious. Box napping… new olympic sport?

3. LEGO videos

Our kids love watching LEGO videos on YouTube. Sometimes its a video of a set being built, sometimes it’s a review, other times it’s a silly stop motion video. The little boys have discovered this favorite pastime of their older siblings and have started joining in on the fun. On Saturday morning I walked downstairs to find three of the boys lined up watching a dragon video and they were getting along so well!

4. Mommy-Son date

Parker chose Texas Roadhouse for his date and I just happened to have a free appetizer to use! This kid is a talker so it makes our dates a lot of fun because I get uninterrupted time to listen to what’s on his mind. We talked about dreams for our future home (way in the future), how mommy and daddy have decided to use the blog as a way to give more generously once we start earning an income with it, and so many other topics. His mind moves like crazy and sometimes I have to work to keep up with where it’s going but I’m glad we can take this time out to get to know our kids better.

Where did you find joy in the chaos this week? What was your favorite part of the week?
