Scripture tells us to bind God’s word on our hearts and write it above our doors. I’ve gathered more than thirty pieces of Christian home decor to help you stay focused on Christ while building a home you love.
I gave my life to Jesus back in college and I immediately tried jumping into the Bible. As a kid I had barely ever picked up a Bible so I really had no where to start. I knew the big stories and the difference between the Old and New Testaments but I wanted to actually read more about God and what He was about. I jumped in to Genesis and tried going straight through. I think I got stuck somewhere in Exodus or Deuteronomy. Then I learned to find specific topics or read the New Testament books that were a little easier to digest for a new believer.
I would read the stories and the passages but other than a brief overview I wasn’t retaining a whole lot of actual substance. Except for one verse:
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
Hebrews 11:1 (NIV)
A door a few apartments down from me had a simple 8.5×11 print out with that verse. I walked by that verse multiple times each day for a full year. That verse is etched into my heart. It is the verse It is the verse I remember when I feel like the big dreams I have are out of reach. It’s the verse I turn to when I feel as though prayers are going unanswered. Just because I don’t see evidence doesn’t mean things aren’t happening. Faith is being sure that God hears me and knows my heart. Faith is being certain that what isn’t shown to me is still working for good.
Since then I’ve worked to try and memorize verses because I know how important it is to be able to recite scripture in any moment.
Why memorize scripture? Yes, God tells us to do so in Deuteronomy, but it’s so much more than that.
Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.
Deuteronomy 6:4-9 (NIV)
A few weeks ago I started a major dental procedure and in the hours leading up to it and even during the work (I wasn’t asleep for it!) I was reciting verses about peace, about how God is my protector, and about trust. I was still experiencing butterflies about the procedure – normal human feelings – but overall I was completely calm about all the procedures (and money!) that this dental work meant.
I had been dealing with a broken tooth for YEARS and finally decided to do something about it. It meant trusting God to provide financially and trusting God with my health during each visit to the dentist. But because of spending time in the word and being able to call on specific scriptures I was able to combat every single lie the enemy tried to hurl my way about this being selfish, impractical, dangerous, and more.
The Word of God is truth and the sword of the Spirit. It is how we can keep going day after day. This is why we need to memorize it – so we can pray it over ourselves, our families, our homes, and our world.
Memorizing for me comes by seeing or hearing something constantly. It’s why I have so many movies from my teen years memorized – I watched them on repeat. It’s why we memorize songs we hear on the radio – they play over and over. And this is why I hang scripture and other pieces that focus my heart and mind on Jesus around my home – so I can see the words as I walk by and they become written on my heart.

Because of how important I feel it is to have pieces like that around our homes I put together this list of more than thirty pieces of home decor so you can be reminded of where our joy, peace, and salvation is from in every room.
