Every week I like to take a moment to showcase the moments that brought me the most joy, but also keep it real with the chaos. The key is seeing that despite the chaos, there is still so much good! Sometimes it’s awesome activities and other times it’s a sweet moment between the kids. There are always moments that can fill us with joy if we choose to see them with a thankful heart.
The last two weeks I struggled. Hard. I messed up my back on the morning of July 10th. I have no idea how, and was struggling with the pain ever since. Some moments are better than others but not being at my full functioning self means my fuse is often shorter than usual and things on my to-do list are not all getting done. My body simply will not allow me to do them. It’s not a cool way to live.
The first week was the worst, which is why I didn’t do one of these posts last week. I couldn’t sit long enough to type anything. Thankfully I had the caramel roll post from last week ready long before my back went out so I didn’t need to worry about that but I enjoy these round up posts. I want to show real life and how despite things not being perfect, there is still so much to be thankful for and find joy in.
I’m sharing pictures for the last two weeks, but an abbreviated version, because 1) I didn’t take a whole lot of pictures while flat on my back, and 2) The pictures I did take over two weeks would take way too long to get through!
Tuesday morning is when my back went out (still no idea how it happened) so I spent a good portion of the day on the floor. Occasionally I made it to a chair, but turns out that made it worse.
The best I felt was on the floor in the basement rotating ice packs. Then one of them burst and I ended up having to clean up neon blue goo from the carpet. Thankfully it all seemed to come out – this is the after picture.
Now I’m choosing the ice packs that don’t have large air bubbles so I can avoid any more bursting goo issues.
On Friday morning my parents came to visit so we hit up the zoo where we decided to purchase a yearly membership. Buying a family membership to local attractions can be cost saving in the long run – one trip for our family of seven is nearly $60 but a year membership is only $75! As long as we use it twice we’ve gotten our money’s worth!
Friday night my parents hung out with the kids while we went on a long date. It was so nice to not feel rushed and know our kids were having a blast with their grandparents.
Saturday we hit up their hotel for swimming then hung out at home the rest of the day because we were all worn out!
We did a whole lot of nothing for the next several days because I could barely walk. I did catch this super cute shot of the kids watching a show on one of the boys’ tablets together. How they can sit nicely this close together on a bid but can’t handle the “closeness” in the car when they all have their own car seat I’ll never understand!
And we ended the week with a trip to Target for their 20th Harry Potter Anniversary party. The kids got drawstring bags, bookmarks, posters and temporary tattoos. Parker was beyond excited!
And for those wondering, my back seems to be on the mend. After almost two weeks of alternating ice and heat, using tennis balls and various yoga positions, I think I’m over the worst of it. Thank you for those that have been praying for healing! This was definitely the worst it’s ever been but I’ve learned a few things in case it ever happens again.
