Scissor practice and oral surgery – 3 places I found joy in the chaos this week

Every week I like to take a moment to showcase the moments that brought me the most joy. Sometimes they are awesome activities and other times it’s a sweet moment between the kids. There are always moments that can fill us with joy if we choose to see them with a thankful heart.

I don’t have much to share this week because I spent a good deal of the week getting ready for a weekend of being stuck in bed. I was focused on getting cleaning and cooking done so Micah would be well prepared and I could spend the weekend recovering. Thankfully my recovery went much better than expected and I actually got to enjoy a bit of the weekend downtime!

I’ve also been busy behind the scenes of the blog updating old graphics, making Instagram a little nicer, and fixing my Pinterest boards. The more time I spend playing with my new colors the more I love them. I think all together they really do spark joy! I’m excited about things I’ve got planned and some really awesome posts and promos are coming in the next few weeks and I can’t wait to share them with all of you!

1. Scissor practice

This girl is super focused on practicing all the skills she is going to need for kindergarten right now. She asked for scissor work so I drew shapes and lines on a bunch of scrap paper and she went to work. She has a little trouble holding the scissors correctly if she sets them down but I have a feeling this will be an activity we practice over and over again so she will get the hang of it real soon.

2. Oral surgery

On Friday I had some dental work done to prepare for a dental implant. I broke a tooth several years ago and was dealing with it but I finally decided I was tired of hiding my big smile because I was ashamed of my broken tooth. We knew the price tag would not be nice, especially because we don’t have dental insurance, but we also trusted God to provide. Not only did he provide the funds for the full amount, but the dentist also ended up giving me a discount for paying the full amount upfront in cash. Our God is so good and faithful when we submit to Him!

I was pretty darn nervous about getting the work done but it went so well and my recovery has been a breeze. All weekend I ate soup, applesauce, and yogurt and I’m back on mostly soft solid food now. I can’t wait for the full work to be done and have a full smile again.

3. Little gamers

I walked in to the living room and saw this and needed to snap a quick shot. One of the little guys deleted all the game data for Super Mario 3D world a while back. This was a game that had hours upon hours upon hours of work put into it over the years. All gone. We expected tantrums from the older boys over losing all their progress. We cried a little inside knowing that all our work was gone! But they never even got upset and instead are starting over from the beginning, taking turns to play levels, and build up their game again. We are incredibly impressed with their maturity over something that is normally a pretty big deal in their minds and how they are coming together as a team to reach a goal.

Where did you find joy in the chaos this week? What was your favorite part of the week?
