Playground adventures, kindergarten round up, and date night – 6 places I found joy in the chaos this week

Every week I like to take a moment to showcase the moments that brought me the most joy. Sometimes they are awesome activities and other times it’s a sweet moment between the kids. There are always moments that can fill us with joy if we choose to see them with a thankful heart.

This was a BUSY week but everything we had going was for good reason. I think the highlight of the week, at least for me, was worship night with my MOPS group. Last year we used YouTube to create our worship playlist but this year we worked with our worship team and they put together about an hour long worship session. It was moving and powerful and an incredible time. Lots of tears, lots of praise, and lots of everything as we came together as sisters in Christ.

The week ended on a super high note as well. Such a good week with so many good moments to remember.

1. Park day

On Sunday we ventured to a favorite park to kick off the nice weather finally arriving. All the kids rode their bikes but poor Cade wasn’t feeling super well by the end and rode home in the wagon… that we brought along just in case this exact thing happened.

My flip flop broke so I got to walk home barefoot but now I have an excuse to buy some new shoes. I already bought this pair of brown sandals earlier this spring so I’m thinking maybe these casual tennis shoes or these flats. What do you think?

2. Kindergarten open house

That’s right. We had Kindergarten round up for this little girl. The girl that surprised us all by being a girl when she was born (we didn’t know what we were having but with two boys we figured it must be another boy). She is so ready and so excited. She’s like her mom – loud, outgoing, and ready to make friends with everyone. I think she’s even more friendly than I was at her age!

We got to listen to a presentation about kindergarten from the principal and counselor then visit all the kindergarten rooms. Both our boys had the same teacher so this was the first time we’ve gotten to look at the other rooms! Next up is testing this summer so they know what class to divide all the kids into to get a good mix of skills. I’m praying she gets the same teacher as the boys because she was amazing!

3. Working for privileges

The big kids had a couple days off school so we decided to test out our plan for summer break. All the kids get one turn with the TV – meaning a half hour show or 30 minutes of a video game – and if they want a second turn they need to do a chore. Y’all. This was one of the first times these kids have ever done chores that are not part of their weekly chores with cheerful hearts! Usually we give them the option for these chores to earn a little extra cash and they choose to pass. I guess screen time is more valuable than money in their eyes? Fine by me – my house looked fabulous by the end of the day!

4. Light saber fights

Our kids love Star Wars and it is pretty much automatic to grab a light saber as soon as we enter the toy section at Walmart or Target. This week, Anders would face Cade and hollar, “Are you ready for battle?” before starting to swing his sword. I shared a video in my Instagram stories on Friday so if you aren’t following me there – you should! It’s a fun place to share little clips of our real life as they happen.

5. Date night

We have been looking forward to Friday for WEEKS. Avengers Infinity War came out and we knew we wanted to see it as soon as humanly possible so we wouldn’t need to avoid spoilers. We don’t watch trailers for Marvel or Star Wars movies so that we can go in totally fresh. It makes seeing the movie significantly more magical but makes the wait that much harder.

We set up babysitters and ordered pizza for the whole crew. While they were stuffing their faces and playing games we were at the movie then after we went and stuffed our own faces with sushi. It was a perfect night. We even managed to swing by Home Depot and pick out the flooring we want for our kitchen. We are such adults 😉

6. Mommy-son date

May is going to be a hectic month so we decided to start on Mommy-kid dates early and Cade is up first this month! He chose frozen yogurt so we went to the library to pick out some new things, ate our treat, then swung by the grocery store to grab a watermelon because they were on sale. He’s such a sweet boy with so many stories to tell!

Where did you find joy in the chaos this week? What was your favorite part of the week?
