Confession time:

I’m not a huge chocolate lover.

I can hear you gasping from here! I know, I know. Chocolate is life for you and you can’t imagine a day without it. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll eat it, but sparingly and only in certain forms. Reese’s cup? Yes please. Slice of chocolate cake? Nah, I’ll pass, but thanks.

Brownies are the exception.

There can be a huge platter of desserts and I’ll probably choose the brownie every time… maybe with a few others also, because, well, dessert, duh. And since discovering this brownie recipe I have yet to ever make another, or buy a box mix. It’s that freaking good.

Put away the boxed brownie mix and make these incredible homemade brownies that come together in minutes.

I’m pretty sure this takes just about as long as a box mix, maybe a few extra minutes, but it’s worth it knowing you are making it from scratch! And while these are fantastic on their own, I really love them as the base of a fully loaded ice cream sundae. Which I’m now craving again, so good job me.

I think one of the reasons I love this recipe so much is that it uses cocoa powder instead of melted chocolate. I know the melted chocolate could produce a richer tasting brownie but I RARELY have the right type of chocolate in my house to make those types. I’m lucky if I have chocolate chips! But I keep cocoa powder in my house specifically to make these brownies… and red velvet cake ๐Ÿ˜‰

But enough blabbing – let’s bake!

Easiest Homemade Brownies

adapted from allrecipes.com

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 350*. Grease and flour an 8×8 or 9×9 pan.

2. Mix together melted butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract in medium bowl.

3. Using a sifter or mesh strainer, add in cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Stir gently with a whisk or rubber spatula – do not over mix!

4. Pour batter into prepared pan and spread evenly.

5. Bake for 20-25 minutes. Brownies will look underdone but they will set as they cool. Longer baking will result in more cake like brownies, shorter baking time will result in denser, more fudge like brownies.

Do you prefer corner, edge, or center brownie pieces?

  1. pinning for sure! I AM a chocolate lover, including brownies but I can’t make a decent brownie to save my life. (Probably a good thing if I’m honest – that way I don’t eat them daily!) ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for the recipe!
