Weekly Menu Plan #81 + a look at the weekly grocery shopping for our family of 7

I didn’t plan things very well this week. I completely forgot to grab my receipts for posting how much we spent at each store, gah! But thankfully both Walmart and Sam’s Club list their prices online so I can easily figure out what we spent there. The only thing not listed (and not photographed) were the apples we bought at a local store and a couple packs of cheese slices at Target.

Super honesty right here: I’m spoiled. Micah and I do the grocery shopping together every week. He has Fridays off so we load up the kids and make it a family event. Yes, it’s still chaotic because there are seven of us traipsing through the store – or five when the boys are in school – but at least I have another adult to keep an eye on the wandering children, someone else to keep track of the list with me, someone to help load groceries while the other loads children, and all that other craziness that goes along with shopping that having a second adult means life is so much easier.

Is it really the last full week of July?! I’ve got to start planning my August freezer cooking time so I can be ready for the school year. Ugh. Why does it always fly by so fast? I’m going to have a third and second grader this year. It’s also Mercedes last year at home before starting school. Tears! Gah, I’ve got to pull myself together because it’s still so far off, even if it’s creeping closer every moment. Focus, Katie! Get back to the food!

This week’s grocery budget is a little funny compared to other weeks. My parents came up mid week so we could on a date (they were camping near by) and were able to swing by Aldi – that one that’s about an hour away – and pick us up a good bit of produce and dairy products that I knew would be cheaper. We spent $20 to get milk, eggs, watermelon, cantaloupe, broccoli, strawberries, cherries, cucumber, sugar, creamer, and mustard. I was so excited that cherries were only $1.99/lb at Aldi! That’s an incredible price.
