Kids have a fun way of looking at the world and the people in it. Discover how they view their dad with this free Father’s Day printable interview. It’s perfect for birthdays too!
Reading the interviews the kids fill out each year for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day is honestly one of my favorite parts of the day. It’s a fun look at life from their point of view and watching their ideas change (or stay the same) each year is also great.
I have learned over the years that different kids react to these interviews differently. Some of our kids have fun with these and can shout out the first answer that comes to their mind. Others want to get every question correct, not just put their opinion. It’s a little behind the scenes look at their personalities.
Because of this, a lot of the survey/interviews I found out there weren’t working. One of our kiddos completely shut down one year because the survey we found caused a near panic attack. This kid couldn’t handle possible answering incorrectly, even though we promised it was a fun thing, with no right or wrong answers, and was all about their own perspective. That didn’t help.
Obviously this meant I needed to create a different survey. One that offered the classic statements like “My dad’s favorite food is…” along with statements that made it easier for the child to write what is true in their world. Statements like
- My favorite memory of my dad is…
- Did you know my dad can…
- One day I want to ____________ with my dad.
This has been a big switch in our family – no more panicking due to “wrong” answers for kids that are worried about it! Sometimes we need to make little adjustments for our kiddos and figure out how to help them navigate this world.
