It might be because I’m slightly Type-A. Micah would probably call me extremely Type-A because of all the planning I do and my highly competitive nature… not that I need to win at everything, I swear! But really, I think it comes down to control. In a home filled with five children that I cannot control, I know I can control what food is being served.
Okay, it sounds weird when I say it that way but you know what I mean. My kids make their own choices. As much as I want them to be perfect angelic creatures that obey my every direction and speak with kindness at all times, never even glancing at their siblings with annoyance… that doesn’t happen. I can’t control them. I can’t control the weather. I can’t control what prices the stores charge. I can’t control medical emergencies, problems at my husband’s work which make him get home late, or how long a shipment takes to arrive from Amazon. But gosh darnit, I can control what I serve my family.
I also can’t control what they choose to eat. But I can control what I offer.
Healthy meals are vital to our well being. I’ll admit I’m not the greatest at including healthy choices. Oh sure, we eat homemade and I try to serve veggies with every meal but sometimes I slack. And sometimes are meals are far more carb based than produce or meat based. I want to find a great way to balance healthy eating and our grocery budget.
